MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation (ACSR) Mme Galebekwe Tlhapi has made a clarion call to the people of the North West to vote for the Sports Star of the Year in the North West Sports Recognition Awards

Sports star of the year is the only category open for public voting.

The nominees for the 2021 edition of the North West Sports Recognition Awards (ACSR) have been announced, organised by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation together with North West Sports Confederation.

The Provincial Sport Recognition Awards comes as a national mandate and we are recognising sports men and women for their efforts in keeping the passion so sport alive, under the difficult Covid conditions.

Congratulating the nominees, MEC for ACSR Galebekwe Tlhapi said: ‘It gives us tremendous pleasure to present these fine gems from our province. We are delighted and proud to have such a calibre of achievers nominated for the Sports Recognition Awards. It speaks of the high standards we hold in North West and how our sportsman and women. I send my best wishes to all the nominees and may the best win.’

The nominees were opened to the public from November 2021 until January 2022.  The categories cut across the sports and recration from all the districts of the province namely Bojanala, Ngaka Modiri Molema, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati. The categories includes MEC’s Award and Premier’s Awards.

The categories recognizes individuals, males and females, people with disabilities, provincial, national, international participants, provicial federations, recreation bodies, schools, indigenous games groups, sports legends, community sport builders and media.

The Community of the North West Province are requested to vote for the Sports Star of the Year.

Photo : Kabelo Selebogo Scores of traditional healers, indigenous knowledge systems practitioners and cultural activists from different parts of the country on Saturday. July 23 gathered in Kuruman, Magojaneng Village, for the unveiling of the tombstone of a sanusi, Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa. The renowned traditional healer was born on July 21, 1921 and died on March 25, 2020 at the age of 98. Before he departed, Mutwa performed a traditional cleansing ceremony in 2018 at Lotlamoreng Dam Cultural Village in Mahikeng where he stayed. In the same year, the historian, prophet, cultural and heritage activist, was presented with Usiba Award by the national Department of Arts and Culture for his contribution to indigenous knowledge and preservation of heritage.
