DR KK DISTRICT LAUNCHES NETBALL FRIDAY By Vusi Kama MEETING OF MINDS:  MEC Tlhapi and Netball SA President Cecilia Molokwane sharing ideas during the launch of Netball Friday in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.  The beginning of the Netball Friday launch series in the North West got off to a scorching start in Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp last Friday, with the provincial netball team, the NW Flames, leading the proceedings on the field of play. The events in the two towns marked the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District launch of the Provincial events, with Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District taking the baton on Friday April 29. Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala will follow at dates to be announced.  MEC TLHAPI HANDS OVER EQUIPMENT TO A LOCAL RECORDING STUDIO   MEC Galebekwe Tlhapi, Cllr Tshepang Kwasi, Mr Abey Mofokeng, Ms Carol Motjuwadi, Mr Jack  Monare By: Thato Matshidiso MEC for the Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation (ACSR) Mme Galebekwe Tlhapi earlier this week handed over equipment to a local recording studio in Jouberton, Matlosana.   The equipment ranged from laptops to drums, keyboards, and software. The equipment was given to a collaboration of Abtainment Productions and Monare Records, as part of the Departments’ mandate to promote and develop the arts in the Province. “We are happy that the Department has provided the local recording studio with equipment,” said local ward councillor Tshepang Kgwasi. Local artists from Jouberton Location, Kanana, Tigane, and Wolmaranstad also use the studio for the production of their music.” Kgwasi added that the equipment would help communities develop in the arts and culture sector in general. ‘’Our local arti

Photo: Edith Mogapi By : Vusi Kama Grassroots artists and cultural workers in the North West got a much-needed shot in the arm last week when the provincial Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) and the national Sports, Arts and Culture departments handed over arts equipment and recording studio equipment to 28 deserving entities from across the Province. Under the auspices of the North West Federation of Community Arts Centres (Nwfcacs), the community entities received equipment ranging from laptops to drums, keyboards, stage attire, stationery and studio hardware and software, among others. The hand-over event was held at Mmabana Mafikeng. The idea is to empower art centres across the province to give opportunities to budding artists in rural and urban environments to produce the next generation of homegrown stars.
