 MEC TLHAPI HANDS OVER EQUIPMENT TO A LOCAL RECORDING

MEC for the Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation (ACSR) Mme Galebekwe Tlhapi earlier this week handed over equipment to a local recording studio in Jouberton, Matlosana.  

 

The equipment ranged from laptops to drums, keyboards, and software. The equipment was given to a collaboration of Abtainment Productions and Monare Records, as part of the Departments’ mandate to promote and develop the arts in the Province.

 

“We are happy that the Department has provided the local recording studio with equipment,” said local ward councillor Tshepang Kgwasi. Local artists from Jouberton Location, Kanana, Tigane, and Wolmaranstad also use the studio for the production of their music.”

 

Kgwasi added that the equipment would help communities develop in the arts and culture sector in general. ‘’Our local artists will not have to travel very far to access services and equipment.’’

 

“We are happy to have received the equipment from the Department, this will assist us greatly in our day-to-day work of assisting local artists produce quality music,” said Abey Mofokeng of Abtainment Production.

 

“We work with different community-based artists with various genres such as clap and tap, hip hop and jazz.  A clap and tap choir such as Jack and the New Spirituals is one of the beneficiaries of the studio. We are proud to say that some of the projects that comes from this studio are played on  SABC Radio stations,” said Mofokeng.

 

“It would be appreciated if further improvements can be made by ACSR to the recording studio building so that we are able to offer excellent service to the local artists.’’

 

The local ACSR Service Point is assisting with fixing the studio and meeting its needs.  

 

“The Department will have to work together with the Matlosana Local Municipality to assist the recording studio further through the District Development Model to avoid duplication of services,’’ said MEC Tlhapi. As the MEC and the Ward Councillor we have the responsibility to make sure that the recording studio is up to standard.”

  Handing over of Ipelegeng  Multi-Purpose Centre The Ipelegeng Multi-Purpose Centre is a facility constructed at Mamusa Service Point in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District at Ipelegeng Location. The main purpose of its establishment is to address importance of sports and recreation facilities in all the four districts of the province. A total budget of R119 million was solicited from Community Sport budget to build the facility. Activities to be catered for include the indoor sporting codes such as Netball, Basketball, Volleyball, Aerobics and Indoor Soccer. The centre is aiming at increasing the participation of sports and recreation activities in the local municipality and also reduce the social-ills in the community. Photo : Maboni Kgabi Recognising and honouring the women who fought for the liberation of South Africa is one aspect in our history government cannot over look. These were the words of MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation (Acsr), Mme Virginia Tlhapi, during the provincial Women’s Day celebration 2021 in Lehurutshe. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a monument in Welbedacht, Lehurutshe, to honour the local women who marched against Pass Laws in 1956. They were brutally stopped by the police on their way to hand over their demands to the Commissioner in Zeerust. The event was a collaboration between Acsr and Tlhako Ya Pele, a cultural and historic research institute based in Zeerust.
