 MEC MOSENOGI CONGRATULATES TETE FOR BREAKING WORLD RECORD

MEC for North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) Kenetswe Mosenogi has congratulated an elite athlete from Mahikeng, Tete Morena Dijana for setting a new world record after winning Nedbank Runified 50Km in a time of 2:39:03 recently in Gqerberha.

Dijana smashed the record which was previously set by Stephen Ramokoka  (2:40:13), who is also from the North West Province in Ramatlabama village, at the same marathon last year.


 “I am thrilled to see Tete delivering a superb performance and setting a new world record,” said Mme Mosenogi. “He is placing the entire nation on the map in addition to his hometown and province. This just came out a day after being honoured with a Special Premier’s Award, which is one of the highest accolades at the North West Sports Awards.”

The athlete made a name for himself in athletics circles after winning the 2022 Comrades Marathon.

His sterling performance also earned him the Premier Special Award at the North West Sports Awards held in Sun City on Saturday, February 25.

Onalenna Khonkhobe, who is well known from the Comrade Marathon 2022 edition as the pacemaker, finished as Tete’s runner-up at Nedbank Runified after clocking 2:39:39.

She further wished them luck with their entries into the South African Sports Awards to be held later in the year. Orlando Pirates star, Mannapule Saleng, who hails from Bloemhof, bagged Sports Star of The Year Award at the award ceremony.   The footballer, who rushed to Sun City after the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs, complimented Junior Masangane (Mmabana Gymnastics) and Tshiamo Matlhoane (NW Gymnastics), who competed alongside him in the same category.   AARON MOLETE BIOGRAPHY Compiled by: Ntwaetsile Peter Keikabile Aaron Molete, born 27 August 1917 and died 24 November 1984, was a member of both the South African Communist Party (SACP) and African National Congress (ANC) who worked for New Age. According to LONG WALK TO FREEDOM (p322) Aaron was one of the distinguished activists of his time. His involvement in the anti-apartheid activism led to his long term imprisonment at Pretoria Central Prison today known as Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Services and eventually on Robben Island. Mr Molete, who was 40 years old then, was arrested and charged with contravention of the provisions of the Suppression of Communism Act of 1950 as amended. The Act as amended declared the South African Communist Party an unlawful organization. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment. At the time of his arrest Mr Aaron Molete was in possession of the following documents: 1. A Communist Party publication called INKULULEKO (Freedom in English) Sept
