J OUBERTON COMMUNITY TO RECEIVE BOOKS ON WORLD BOOK AND COPY RIGHTS DAY About 6000 books will be donated to the Jouberton Community and Stakeholders during World Book and Copyright Day on April 20 and 21 at Matlosana Local Municipality in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District. A golden opportunity missed by media and Mahikeng community. The Department condemns the disruptions of the well-organised Mahika Mahikeng media launch that was scheduled to take place on March 8 at Mmabatho Convention Centre. This was the second and final leg of the media briefings, after a very successful and well-attended media briefing held in Sandton on March 3. This was meant to be an information sharing session with media and the plans ahead. The arts sector and the community at large also missed out on receiving information about the opportunities and economic spin-offs that come with hosting Mahika Mahikeng in their own backyard. This event has not been staged for three years, against the backdrop of an already fragile economy the COVID-19 pandemic has created - affecting the arts sector negatively. Dijana smashed the record which was previously set by Stephen Ramokoka  ( 2:40:13) , who is also from the North West Province in Ramatlabama village, at the same marathon last year.   “I am thrilled to see Tete delivering a superb performance and setting a new world record,” said Mme Mosenogi. “He is placing the entire nation on the map in addition to his hometown and province.   CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR NORTH WEST SPORTS AWARDS The North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (Acsr) has made a call for nominations for the North West Sports Awards. The nominations close on February 13 (18:00). The annual North West Sports Awards have been created to recognise and honour individuals and teams who have excelled both on and off the field. The period covered for the current nominations is from April 1 to December 31, 2022. The awards are organised by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation and the North West Sports Confederation. “The Provincial Sports Awards are a national mandate and we are recognising sports men and women for their efforts in keeping the passion   for sport alive in the hearts of the millions in the province,” said Acsr spokesperson, Shuping Sebolecwe. We further like to send our profound words of thankfulness to our important partners and stakeholders with whom we held hands together to make it possible for the event to happen. A special reception was given to our neighbours from Botswana with their own parking and ticketing area. As Cassper Nyovest himself describes the event, it was a home coming for him after criss-crossing other provinces since 2015. On its sixth year he decided to bring the project to his hometown for the first time. This was a spectacular event despite the challenges encountered. Pic : Thato Motau Team North West bagged five medals at the 16 th National Indigenous games festival held in Margate, Kwazulu Natal, from September 24-28. The games brought together all nine provinces for a week of sports and celebration of South Africa’s National Heritage. An additional feather in the cap for the North West is that four players from the province’s Team Khokho have been selected to represent South Africa at the Kho-kho World Championships to be held this month in India. They are Linda Masina, Tebogo Mocumi, Galaletsang Tabaekae and Boitshoko Matebele from Dr Kenneth Kaunda district. They were all part of the conquering male and female teams at the Games.
