Photo : Kabelo Selebogo Barolong Boo Tlou Le Tau in Bona Bona (Dr Segomotsi Mompati District) welcomed the Batlhako Ba Matutu from Mabeskraal in their land with open arms last weekend, as they toured the area that housed their forebears who were banished during the Apartheid era. Those banished were influential individuals who were sent by the Apartheid state to live far from their homes, to prevent them from swaying communities against the regime. The visit, hosted by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (Acsr) as part of the Black History Month celebrations, was the first since the end of Apartheid. MAHIKENG – Mahikeng-based top-flight women’s soccer team, Golden Ladies, have expressed their joy at receiving a set of soccer kit from Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) MEC, Ms Galebekwe Tlhapi. The gesture is one of the many responsibilities that the department has undertaken to boost capacity-building among local clubs within communities. Golden Ladies is the only team in the North West that plays in the highest women’s soccer league in the country, facing opponents such as Mamelodi Sundowns and University of the Western Cape, among others. Photo : Thobani Khanyile MEC for North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR), Galebekwe Tlhapi has officially opened Ipelegeng Multipurpose Centre and handed it over to Mamusa Local Municipality, Mayor Seitealeng Chelechele on Friday, 03 February 2022 in Ipelegeng Town, Schweizer-Reneke. This state-of-the-art facility is an initiative to enhance indoor sports as Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Table Tennis, Hockey, Indoor Soccer, Badminton and board games. The centre is well placed in Ipelegeng Township which comprise of a huge yard that can accommodate vehicles, an office for administration, ticket office, kitchen, storage room, changing rooms, built in stage, stands and easy access for persons with disabilities. A very successful and incident free tournament was held after a being on hiatus for the past two years due to the devastating Covid-19 lockdown which affected sporting activities. FITNESS FANATICS PARTICIPATED IN THE  MASS AEROBICS EVENT By Thato Matshidiso  Aerobics enthusiasts across the province gather for mass aerobics in Mahikeng,Mmabatho Stadium. Photo : Kabelo Selebogo.  The mood was very high at Mmabatho Stadium when fitness fanatics from across the North West Province came in full force to attend and participate in the Mass Aerobics event held over the past weekend. As part of the mandate of the Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation to promote and develop sport and recreation in the North West Province, children as young as 5 years old also took part in the aerobics sessions which also included young and old people.   Mass Aerobics is a recreational activity with objective of keeping people active. Regular physical activity has health benefits such as potent stress buster, keep weight balance and lowers the risk of developing major chronic diseases. Additional benefits includes increased energy, stronger bones and muscles and improves sleep.

  Handing over of Ipelegeng  Multi-Purpose Centre The Ipelegeng Multi-Purpose Centre is a facility constructed at Mamusa Service Point in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District at Ipelegeng Location. The main purpose of its establishment is to address importance of sports and recreation facilities in all the four districts of the province. A total budget of R119 million was solicited from Community Sport budget to build the facility. Activities to be catered for include the indoor sporting codes such as Netball, Basketball, Volleyball, Aerobics and Indoor Soccer. The centre is aiming at increasing the participation of sports and recreation activities in the local municipality and also reduce the social-ills in the community. It is envisaged that the facility will encourage social cohesion and nation building within the community thus increasing sport participation within the community in Mamusa Local Municipality. MEDIA RELEASE 02 FEBRUARY 2022 VOOMA VACCINATION MASS AEROBICS TO BE HELD The Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation will host a Vooma Vaccination Mass Aerobics event at Mmabatho Stadium on the 05 February  2022 from 06h00 The aim is to encourage people of the North West Province to heed the call to vaccinate. This is since the number of vaccinated people in the Country is lower than the excepted number, in order to reach head immunity. Mass Aerobics will be used as an activity for the day, health related activities such as testing and screening will be done by the Department of Health. Mass Aerobics is a recreational activity with object of keeping people active.
